The Brooks Buffalos begins football practice this Monday, Aug.19 at 5 p.m. in order to gear up its first exhibition game of the season which will take place on home field Friday Aug. 30.
“I would imagine that anyone that comes to try out for the team will make the team numbers-wise,” head coach Shaun Roth said. “What we will be doing is looking for position players. We have a fairly large group of young players coming up this year. Those guys are new for us, so we’ll see where we can fit them in and where they are going to help us.”
Roth and his coaching staff will have a good opportunity to evaluate players leading up to the Aug. 30 game. Practices will take place from Aug. 19 to 23 and Aug. 26 to 29.
Roth expects about 14 returning players to make up the 2013 team.
The Buffalos will compete in the Rangeland Football Conference with the Crescent High Vikings, McCoy Colts, Medicine Hat Mowhawks, Strathmore Spartans and the Drumheller Titans. Taber will not be fielding a team this season.
Teams will play at least eight games this season with the goal to qualify for provincials.
The Buffalos have won provincials three times in its history.
The Buffalos will visit Medicine Hat for its first league game on Friday, Sept. 6.
If you have any questions about the Brooks Buffalos or have an interest to join you can call Roth at (403) 363-9641.
